The Basketball BC High Performance Program is a viaSport funded and Canada Sport Institute designated High-Performance program. As a requirement for this designation, including qualifying for CSI-Pacific carding, athletes are required to have Basketball BC directed yearly monitoring and assessment. In order to meet this requirement athletes within our Academy programming are expected to participate in Basketball BC spring/summer programs, (Team BC and BC Summer Games teams), when age applicable.

Basketball BC High Performance is part of Canada Basketball's Targeted Athlete Strategy and includes the following programs for athletes from Grade 7 to 12:

  • Basketball BC Academy Program
    • Boys and Girls Senior Academy (SRA)
    • Boys and Girls Junior Academy (JRA)
  • Team BC
    • U15 and U17 Provincial Teams

Targeted Athlete Strategy

Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS) is a national program that provides identified Canadian athletes with the individualized support that they need in their development to enhance what the team-based system already provides.

Identification and Selection

Athlete identification and selection is a collaborative process.  The process includes input from Basketball BC’s Provincial Coach and Manager of High Performance and selected provincial High Performance coaches and Canada Basketball staff.

High Performance Staff

The High Performance coaching and training staff consists of National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) trained and certified coaches, certified athletic trainers, and Canada Basketball trained analysts.  Support staff includes sport psychologists, who provide mental training techniques to athletes and support physiotherapists, who provide functional movement screening.

The goal of Basketball BC is to have a High Performance coaching pool with NCCP trained coaches for all the High Performance programs.

Athlete Support Services

For the High Performance programs, Basketball BC provides support services in the areas of nutrition, speed and agility, strength training, mental training, movement and functional movement assessment, and injury treatment and prevention for identified performance level athletes.

The High Performance Program coaches work with each athlete to establish a personal training plan that focuses on tactics and skill training. Qualifying players and coaches within our Senior Academy programs are eligible for Canadian Sport Institute (CSI) and Pacific Sport carding and benefits.
