NCCP COMMUNITY PATHWAY

NCCP Basketball Fundamentals Program – “TRAINED”

This program is:
  • for the coach who works with athletes aged 6-10 years of age
  • a 7 hour session which includes ethical decision making, modified games approach, LTAD, safety, age appropriate practice planning and skill development

After completing this program, the coach will have NCCP Basketball FUNdamentals - “Trained” status.  There is no “Certified” status for the NCCP Basketball FUNdamentals program.

NCCP COMPETITION PATHWAY

NCCP Basketball Learn to Train (L2T) Program – “TRAINED”

This program is:
  • for the coach who works with athletes aged 9-12 years of age
  • 2 – 8 hours sessions which include ethical decision making, modified games approach, LTAD, safety, age appropriate practice planning and skill development

After completing this program, the coach will have NCCP Basketball Learn to Train - “Trained” status.

Clinic fee - $200 (includes program material)  UPCOMING CLINICS 

NCCP Basketball Learn to Train (L2T) Program – “CERTIFIED”

To become “Certified” for this program, the coach will:
  1. have NCCP Basketball Learn to Train – “Trained” status;
  2. request the Coach Portfolio and NCCP Evaluation registration link from the Basketball BC Provincial Coach, Shaun McGuinness 
  3. register for the NCCP Evaluation (at the link provided)
  4. complete the Coach Portfolio and submit it to the Basketball BC Provincial Coach for evaluation;
  5. receive acceptance of the Coach Portfolio from the Basketball BC Provincial Coach;
  6. pass an evaluation of the coach’s practice (evaluated by a provincial evaluator); and
  7. pass the NCCP on-line Making Ethical Decisions exam

Evaluation fee - $150 (includes Coach Portfolio and Practice evaluations) 

MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION

NCCP Basketball Learn to Train (L2T) Competency Challenge Program – “CERTIFIED”

This program is:
  • for the coach who has previously taken the old NCCP program (Level I, II, III) and does not wish to take the NCCP Basketball Learn to Train program clinic; or
  • for the coach who has sufficient knowledge and experience to challenge the NCCP Basketball Learn to Train program

NCCP COURSE CHALLENGE MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Asst/Head Coach at L2T level - 5  yrs
  • Phys Ed degree
  • Asst/Head Coach at L2T level - 5 yrs
  • Asst/Head Coach at L2T level - 10 yrs
To be considered for the NCCP Basketball Learn to Train Competency Challenge program, please provide the following information to the Basketball BC Provincial Coach, Shaun McGuinness.
  • old NCCP program status; and
  • coaching experience/history – the coach will need a minimum of 3 to 5 years coaching experience and to have demonstrated additional training i.e. attendance and participation at coaching clinics and/or seminars

If the coach receives approval to proceed with the Learn to Train Competency Challenge program, the Coach Portfolio and NCCP Competency Challenge registration link will be emailed to the coach.

To complete the “Certified” status for this program, the coach will:
  1. receive approval from the Provincial Coach to proceed with the program
  2. register for the NCCP Learn to Train Competency Challenge Program
  3. complete the Coach Portfolio and submit it to the Basketball BC Provincial Coach for evaluation;
  4. receive acceptance of the Coach Portfolio from the Basketball BC Provincial Coach;
  5. pass an evaluation of the coach’s practice (evaluated by a provincial evaluator); and
  6. pass the NCCP on-line Making Ethical Decisions exam

Competency Challenge fee - $325 (includes program material and Coach Portfolio and Practice evaluations)

MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION


NCCP Basketball Train to Train (T2T) Program – “TRAINED”

This program is:
  • for the coach who works with athletes aged 11-15 years of age
  • 2 – 8 hours sessions which include LTAD, making ethical decisions, practice planning, teaching strategies, mental training, skill development and development of offensive and defensive

It is recommended that the coach has “Trained” and “Certified” status for NCCP Basketball Learn to Train prior to taking the NCCP Basketball Train to Train course as it is a required for certification.

After completing this program, the coach will have NCCP Basketball Train to Train - “Trained” status.

  1. have NCCP Basketball Learn to Train – “Certified” status and have NCCP Basketball Train to Train – “Trained” status;

MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION


NCCP Basketball Train to Complete (T2C) Program – “CERTIFIED”  

This program is:
  • for the coach who works with athletes aged 15-21 years of age
  • a series of modules that will take 1 to 2 years to complete and is designed for the coach at the secondary school or the university level
  • separated into 9 basketball modules:
  • 3 clinic modules - Skills, Tactics and Strategies, and Planning
    • each clinic module is 12 to 16 hours in length and is offered once per year
  • 6 general Competition – Development Theory modules: Coaching & Leading Effectively, Managing Conflict, Leading Drug-free Sport, Developing Athletic Abilities, Prevention & Recovery and Psychology of Performance
  • each theory module can be completed in person or online through Viasport or the Coaching Association of Canada. 

Effective 2017, the Train to Compete course will be coordinated and offered through Canada Basketball.  UPCOMING CLINICS 

To complete the “Certified” status for this program, the coach will:
  1. complete all 6 basketball theory modules and attend all 3 clinic modules;
  2. request the Coach Portfolio and NCCP Evaluation registration link from the Basketball BC Provincial Coach, Shaun McGuinness
  3. register for the NCCP Evaluation (at the link provided)
  4. complete the Coach Portfolio and submit it to the Basketball BC Provincial Coach for evaluation;
  5. receive acceptance of the Coach Portfolio from the Basketball BC Provincial Coach; and
  6. pass an evaluation of the coach’s practice (evaluated by a provincial evaluator)

It is recommended that the coach who wishes to pursue Competition - Development "Certification" begin completing the Competition-Development Theory modules. For more information on these modules go to http://www.coachesbc.ca/nccp.  

Please note: coaches do not have to complete the NCCP Learn to Train or NCCP Train to Train programs to take NCCP Train to Compete.
