The Centre for Performance Program (CP) is the second level of the Basketball BC High Performance Program and is part of Canada Basketball’s overall Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS).
TAS is a national program that provides identified Canadian athletes with the individualized support that they need in their development to enhance what the team-based system already provides.
CP is based on a training model which targets high potential athletes and provides them with advanced level training and experiences to assist in elite level player development. The program is designed to teach the international (FIBA) game that includes both individual and team offensive and defensive skills and to learn various aspects of sports science that are necessary to become an elite basketball player.
CP is for athletes entering Grades 8-10 in the fall (ages 13-15 by the end of the year). Athletes are required to tryout, but an athlete may receive a direct invitation based on prior identification (Futures Program).
CP GIRLS PROGRAM INFORMATION
Centre of Performance (CP) is aligned with our Provincial Team Program and Canada Basketball's Cadette program. The program uses the Canada Basketball player development curriculum. The focus is on athletes’ skill development, decision making, and playing in the four phases of the game: offense, defense, offensive and defensive transition.
For 2021, the CP program is designed for 15U athletes (2007, 2008, 2009). This coincides with the athlete identification process for the 2022 Canada Basketball 15U provincial teams. The program is also part of Canada Basketball’s identification process for invitation to National team assessment camps at the Cadette level.

The programs will focus on high level skill and concept development while also introducing Canada Basketball national team program concepts and style of play. Additionally, players will be engaged in off court development through guest speakers/coaches and online team activities.
