Basketball BC Announces Integrated Support Team for 2017 Girls’ Provincial Team

Shaun McGuinness is happy to announce that we will be adding two more additional support staff to our High Performance Programming for the 2017 Girls Provincial Teams

Dr. Kelsey Horsting / Chiropractor will be giving a presentation to our Provincial team players on the weekend of April 22 and 23. Kelsey is a former Basketball BC provincial team player who went on to play at SFU.

“Having been involved with basketball at this level and experiencing two season-ending knee injuries at the tail-end of my career, I can now look back and see where the problems began that led to my ACL and meniscus tear.  As I am now a chiropractor, I fully understand the process of injury and rehabilitation that I experienced ten years ago and realize that my injuries could have been prevented had I known then, what I know now. My goal is to raise awareness in young athletes on how chiropractic can both prevent injury and enhance athletic performance, while helping them stay healthy and active long after they finish their competitive basketball careers.”- Kelsey

Carl Neinhuis will be working primarily with our U17 players at various times through their spring/summer training schedule helping to prepare them for the Canada Summer Games. Carl is part of Team BC support team for the Canada Summer games and is part of the Sport Med staff.

“I listen. I provide support. I work collaboratively with athletes and performers while selecting appropriate skills and strategies to enhance performance and wellness. I challenge, question, encourage and educate while helping athletes and performers become experts on themselves. I strive to help each individual develop an ability to manage their own specific needs, draw on personal strengths, seek solutions and find meaning and perspective in their personal pursuits.” – Carl

Carl is not new to working with our athletes as he presented this fall to both our POD and CP players. Carl also was part of the 2013 Canada Summer Games BC team. Carl’s support and guidance was key in helping our team win the Silver medal at the games.

The addition of Kelsey and Carl to our support team, that includes Cheryl Jean Paul – Program Analyst and Chris Spencer – High Performance Trainer, further helps build our High Performance program to be of the highest caliber.
